Wind Surfing ~ Kite Surfing

Windsurf

Some of our boardsRadical Sports Tobago is located at Pigeon Point Heritage Park, Tobago, W.I. It is the only windsurf center in Tobago with a wide range of Mistral and Starboard Boards for beginners through to expert from 215 to 84 liter boards, along with North and Tushingham sails, from the beginners 2.0m training rigs to 8.0m Tushingham T3’s.

The Pigeon Point beach is protected by the Buccoo Reef, creating an ideal environment for windsurfing and kite surfing. Acting as a breakwater, the reef protects the Bon Accord Lagoon, Coral Gardens and Nylon Pools from the open Caribbean Sea. The prevailing winds are cross shore from the right, switching to on-shore many days in the main season. The main windsurfing season is usually mid to late December through to May/June. However in 2007 Pigeon Point, Tobagowe were still experiencing windy conditions into August.

During the high season, December to May, lessons are available with our professional multi lingual instructors who can teach beginner to advance lessons.

Windsurfing clinics are available, in Tobago, each winter through Sportif International. We have had many professional coaches such as Jem Hall, Guy Cribb and Simon Bornhorf offer windsurfing coaching weeks with great success at our professional windsurf centre here in Tobago.

Surf and Action, a tour operator based in Germany specializing in windsurfing holidays, has also run very popular clinics over the last few years. Teaching beginner to advanced sailors with 3 instructors Oliver, Bernd and Norbert. With flights from London with British Airways, Excel and Virgin Atlantic and from Europe there are flights from Frankfurt with Condor, Amsterdam with Martin Air, it makes getting to Tobago very easy.

Wide Angle board shotYou may even have read about the Pigeon Point sailing location in The Sunday Times or Boards Magazine UK both of whom have featured Tobago in many of their issues. The Board test team, Bill Dawes, Ian Leonnard and Gregg Dunnett has been to Tobago 5 times on test weeks. They are often seen bringing a mass of kit to test to our location.

Though out of the main windsurfing season July to December can still offer great beginner to intermediate level learning conditions. The low tide makes water conditions very smooth in the lagoon, which is great for any one wanting to improve, whether you are an expert sailor wanting to practice sailing clue first, or a beginner wanting to master beach starting, the calm waters are dream conditions.

Now with mountain bikes also available for hire from Radical Sports Tobago it makes getting to and from the centre a lot easier. Pre-booking of the mountain bikes are suggested.
